Just in time for Halloween, we're proud to feature our merchant 805 Masks: a delightful shop that carries handmade felt masks for kids. Founder Sandy Darrow created the company when she saw how much her grandson, Max, loved dressing up as different characters.
Masks in the making.
Darrow says her greatest source of inspiration and encouragement comes from her husband, who has cheered her on from the beginning. She advises other merchants who are looking to start a business to "go with what you love and listen to your customers". It certainly worked out well for Darrow, who was most surprised at how quickly her own business took off.
Last Halloween's shipment of the season (with the Bella the package protector).
Now that she's already running a successful store, Darrow has big plans for the future of her company, including "more teaching tools for parents and teachers, more masks (of course) and all things creative play".
Darrow says that the Volusion feature she uses the most is "the help button," and that her favorite part of using the platform is "that I can actually talk to a real person to get help with my website". As for final advice for prospective entrepreneurs, she says if you're nervous about starting a store, "do it scared: it's scary but worth it!"
