Volusion is what it is because of the people who work within its four walls. So we thought we’d tell you more about some of those people. What makes them tick? Why do they come to work each day? And what do they look forward to doing when they leave the office? In this Employee Spotlight series you’ll get a glimpse at one featured employee each month. This month we talked to our Senior Visual Designer, Tracy Turner.
What do you do here at Volusion?
I work as a Senior Visual Designer on the marketing team. I am focused on the design and experience of Volusion.com in addition to our digital advertising and brand development. I really love working on projects that improve the experience of our users that interact with our digital channels, my goal is to make their first impression of Volusion a good one.
How did you get into the field?
I have always loved art. Growing up I could draw and paint for hours, and when it came time to think about what I wanted to do for a career I knew it had to have a creative element to it. So in college I started taking studio art classes and one of them was a 2-D design class, and from there I was hooked. After a job as a print designer at a newspaper I started working for an advertising agency where I was introduced to website design (I loved it!) and that is the majority of what I have been doing in my career since.
## What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
Keeping the brand look consistent across all channels so our customers and potential customers see a cohesive, well-developed brand design.
What do you love most about Volusion?
The openness to change. I feel that if there is a way to do things that is more efficient or could be better for the customer, we are encouraged to try it. I really feel like that kind of openness helps build strong teams and a customer-focused way of thinking.
What’s the first thing you do when you get off work?
Get home and spend some time with my fiancé and my 8 month old son. I love being a working mom; it makes the evening hours I get to spend with him really special.
What do you like to do in your spare time?/ What are your hobbies?
I like to paint, carve prints and occasionally sketch furniture ideas for my fiancé to build and fill our house.
## What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I tend to be on the cautious side, but I did go canyoning once while I was on a surf retreat in the Dominican Republic. I jumped off 25- and 35-foot cliffs into the river, and it was super fun!
Where are you going on your next vacation?
To the Bahamas! Hangin out on the beach and taking surf lessons. :)
If you could open an online store, what would you sell?
I loved decorating the nursery for our little one, I would love to sell decor and artwork for kids rooms and nurseries.
Anything else you’d like to add?
If anyone asks me how work is going, I really like that I can say I love what I do and where I work.
